Hello friend, I’m Kate laing
weaver, writer, illustrator, explorer,
I make woven + illustrated goods that bring wildness, warmth, and a sense of whimsy to your spaces. I pursue the cultivation of bravery and coziness through writing, making and exploring.
The great outdoors wildly inspires my creative soul, and much of my work is influenced by our beautiful National Parks and public lands. I am drawn to the red rocks of the American Southwest's desert wilderness, and the forested areas of Nebraska landscapes — traits of both inspirations can be found in my handwoven, linocut and collage work.
I am currently based in Omaha, Nebraska with my heeler rescue pup (and studio buddy), Sage Biscuit. (Yes, I am an extremely proud dog mom and we have an Instagram for our adventures! She was crowned Prom Queen at the 2023 Omaha Dog Bar Prom!!) Thrifting/exploring local businesses are some favorite pastimes.
I attended both the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and Hastings College (BA Studio Art, 2016); and have been featured in various gallery shows, publications, podcasts and gift guides. I am a Member Artist at the Landlock Gallery (Blackstone District, Omaha, NE) and the former Cottonwood Gallery and Arts (Aurora, NE).
Dear explorer, I am inspired by the whimsy of nature, and the ever-changing-beauty of our earth. There’s much to learn from getting our feet in the dirt, while we breathe in the wind. Even if you don’t feel bravery rooting to your bones, I know that you have the lionheart rooted to your soul. She leads you through the dusty wilderness. Let’s venture down this trail together and discover the beautiful wildness of Lionheart Canyon, shall we?
Explore the shop, read the blog, nestle in for awhile. You’re warmly invited to sit down at our cozy campfire with me, friend. Grab a sweater, a mug of coffee or a glass of whiskey — and let’s cultivate some wild bravery.
