Rooted #001 // 12” Round Weaving
Rooted #001 // 12” Round Weaving
This weaving was displayed in Landlock Gallery (Omaha, NE) as part of the Member Artist Spring Showcase in March 2022!
Handwoven with the intention of remembering my childhood creativity — made with my little self in mind. An experiment with texture, sculpture and creative expression. I’ve realized how out of touch I’ve been with Little Kate and her creativity. Sitting down to work felt like I was on a chair of thorns, that were blocking my desire to make. Likely thorns of depression, thorns of urgency to make money… it all feeds the monster that makes you lose childlike joy as an adult. When I forget Little Kate’s sense of wonder, I lose myself. And that’s why this year, I’m focusing on rooting myself back in her space. Creating work that she would like, honing a sense of wildness in experimenting with color and texture. This weaving is one I think Little Kate would like, and maybe your younger self finds comfort in this too.
Featuring a neutral cream + ivory color story, with the smallest touches of gold, lavender, grey and salmon.
This wall hanging was made with sari silk, gold accented cotton frizz ribbon, art yarn, wool roving, and soft cotton cord — all woven onto a 12” metal hoop. Woven goods will be wrapped neatly and tied with twine.
