“Into the Desert” Round Weaving (12”)
“Into the Desert” Round Weaving (12”)
This weaving was displayed in Landlock Gallery (Omaha, NE) as part of the Member Artist Winter Showcase from Dec. 2021-Jan. 2022.
This trio of weavings were made in a deep woods season of anxiety and depression —truthfully, I haven’t woven anything in nearly two months even though creating is so intricately rooted into my being. Not having the energy to create has sent me into a dissociative state, but I somehow pulled from the deepest familiarity and these three weavings were born. Into the Water, Into the Desert, Into the Daydream — each representing a piece of my mental health over the past two months especially. But I think the spark is reviving herself, and hands felt good when these were coming to be. I feel a little more like myself, again.
Featuring a desert red, burnt orange, brown and cream color story, with bits of golden thread tucked into the cotton frizz ribbon.
This wall hanging was made with recycled sari silk, Belgian wool roving, cotton cord and cotton frizz ribbon with gold thread accent — all woven onto a 12” wooden hoop. Woven goods will be wrapped neatly and tied with twine.
MEASUREMENT INFORMATION:
12” circular diameter — the sari silk hanger adds about 2” to the height.
